How often should I detail my car in a Maritime climate?

Twice a year works for most drivers here, timed to the season rather than the calendar: once in late autumn before the salt starts, and once in spring to strip off what the winter left behind. Atlantic Canada combines road salt with coastal salt air, a harsher corrosion environment than most of the country, so the spring appointment matters more here than it would in Ontario. Cars parked outside year-round, or driven daily on the highway, benefit from a third visit mid-winter.

What is actually included in a full detail?

A full detail covers both interior and exterior. Exterior typically means a thorough wash, chemical and clay bar decontamination to pull embedded contaminants out of the paint, a machine polish to remove light swirls, and a protective wax or sealant. Interior covers vacuuming, shampoo or extraction of carpets and upholstery, cleaning and conditioning of leather and trim, and glass. A wash is not a detail — the decontamination and correction steps are what separate them.

Can detailing remove road salt damage?

It depends how far the damage has gone. Salt residue and the white staining it leaves on paint, trim and carpets comes off with proper decontamination. Etching, where salt and grime have started to eat into the clear coat, can often be corrected with machine polishing. What detailing cannot reverse is actual corrosion — once rust has formed in a panel or underbody seam, that is a body shop repair. How long does a full detail take?

Plan on most of a day for a full interior and exterior detail on an average vehicle. Heavily soiled interiors, pet hair, or paint needing multi-stage correction take longer. We would rather quote an honest timeline than rush the decontamination stage, which is the part that actually determines the result.

Is detailing worth it before selling a car?

Generally yes, and it is one of the few car expenses with a fairly direct return. A clean, corrected exterior and a fresh interior change how a buyer reads the way the car was maintained overall, which affects both the price offered and how quickly it sells. Worth doing before the photos are taken, not after.
